How much does Invisalign cost in Richmond, TX?

Invisalign has no single price. Cost depends on how complex your case is, how long it takes, and your insurance. Here’s what drives it.

Reception area at Richmond Dental Care

Short answer

There is no single price for Invisalign. The cost depends mainly on how much your teeth need to move, how many aligners and refinements that takes, and whether your insurance includes orthodontic benefits. After an exam, we give you a written estimate before anything starts, and payment can be spread out with Cherry, Sunbit or CareCredit or paid with FSA/HSA funds.

Clear aligners are a set of custom trays that move your teeth a little at a time. People often see a wide range of prices online and wonder why. The short version is that two cases can look similar in the mirror and need very different amounts of work.

What affects the cost of Invisalign?

FactorWhy it matters
Case complexityMinor spacing needs far fewer stages than crowding or bite correction
Number of alignersEach tray is custom-made; more movement means more trays
RefinementsSome cases need an extra set of aligners to finish details
Length of treatmentLonger cases need more check-ins along the way
RetainersYou’ll need retainers afterward to hold the result
Prep workCavities or gum problems must be treated before aligners

Case complexity is the biggest driver. Closing one small gap is a short treatment. Fixing crowding across a whole arch, or changing how upper and lower teeth meet, takes longer and costs more.

Is Invisalign right for every case?

No. Aligners work well for many mild to moderate spacing and crowding problems in adults. More complex bite problems, large jaw differences and some rotations are often better handled with braces. Richmond Dental Care doesn’t place braces, so if braces are the better fit, we’ll refer you to an orthodontist. Our Invisalign vs. braces guide walks through the differences. For braces patients, our post on braces removal covers the final visit.

Does dental insurance cover Invisalign?

It depends on your plan. Many plans that include orthodontic benefits apply them to clear aligners the same way they do to braces. That benefit is usually a lifetime maximum, a fixed dollar amount you can use once toward orthodontic care, rather than a percentage of each bill.

Some plans don’t include orthodontic coverage at all, and some limit it to children or teens. If you used your lifetime benefit in the past, it may not be available again. We verify your benefits before the visit and show what your plan is expected to pay. See our insurance page for the plans we work with. We are in network with PPO plans including Cigna, UnitedHealthcare and Ameritas; orthodontic benefits still depend on your specific plan.

How can you pay for Invisalign?

  • Insurance with orthodontic benefits, if your plan has them
  • FSA or HSA funds, which can be used for dental treatment
  • Monthly financing through Cherry, Sunbit or CareCredit

Monthly payment amounts depend on the total cost, the term you choose and the financing company’s approval. It’s worth asking about payment options at the consultation, before you commit, so there are no surprises.

What is included in the estimate?

Ask what the estimate covers so you can compare it fairly with any other quote. A complete estimate usually lists:

  • The exam, X-rays and records needed to plan treatment
  • All aligner sets for the planned treatment
  • Whether refinement aligners are included
  • Check-in visits during treatment
  • Retainers at the end

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Treatment time depends on the same things that drive cost. Small spacing fixes can take a few months, while crowding across a full arch often takes a year or more. Aligners only work while they’re in your mouth, so most plans call for wearing them about 20–22 hours a day. Taking them out often can stretch treatment longer and may add refinement trays. Our clear aligner care tips explain how to keep treatment on track.

Are there costs besides the aligners?

Sometimes. Cavities, gum disease or a broken tooth need to be treated before teeth are moved, and those are priced separately. If your teeth have tartar buildup, a cleaning first gives the aligners a healthy starting point. Replacement trays for lost aligners and extra retainers can also add to the total, so ask how those are handled.

What happens at the consultation?

The first step is an exam and X-rays. We check for cavities, gum disease and other issues that need care before teeth are moved. If you’re new, our new patient page explains what to bring and lists our self-pay exam prices.

From there, we talk through your goals and whether aligners can meet them. If they can, you’ll get a written estimate. If they can’t, we’ll tell you, and point you to an orthodontist.

When to call us

Frequently asked questions

Is Invisalign more expensive than braces?

For similar cases the cost is often in a comparable range. Complex cases can cost more with either option. An orthodontist can give you a braces estimate to compare.

Do I need to wear a retainer after Invisalign?

Yes. Teeth tend to drift back without a retainer. Plan for retainer costs as part of the total.

Can I use my FSA or HSA for Invisalign?

Yes, FSA and HSA funds can be used for dental treatment, including clear aligners. Check your plan’s rules and deadlines.

Does Medicaid cover Invisalign for adults?

We are not in network for adult Medicaid. Self-pay and financing options are available.

This guide is general information, not a diagnosis. Every mouth is different — the right treatment for you depends on an exam.
