What happens at your denture visits?
- We examine your mouth, take X-rays and talk about what you want from your new teeth.
- If any teeth need to come out, we plan extractions and allow time for healing.
- We take impressions of your gums and any remaining teeth.
- We record how your upper and lower jaws meet and choose the shape and shade of the teeth.
- You try in a wax model so you can check the look and bite before the denture is finished.
- Your finished denture is delivered and adjusted, and we show you how to put it in, take it out and clean it.
- Follow-up visits ease any sore spots as your mouth gets used to it.
Cost, insurance and financing
Full dentures start at $1,399 per arch, so an upper and a lower each start at $1,399. Partial dentures also start at $1,399. Extractions before the denture are quoted separately in a written estimate; see dental prices.
Most PPO plans and Medicare Advantage plans with dental benefits help pay for this kind of treatment. We check your benefits before your visit and tell you what your plan is likely to cover, so the number you see is close to the number you pay. Original Medicare (Parts A and B) does not cover routine dental care. Texas Medicaid/CHIP is accepted for children only. We treat children in our office from age 1 and refer to a pediatric dentist only if a child needs to be sedated for treatment. See our insurance page for details.
We accept Cherry, Sunbit and CareCredit for patient financing (see financing options), and you can use an FSA or HSA card for dental treatment.
Recovery and aftercare
New dentures take time to get used to. Speaking and eating can feel strange for the first few weeks; start with soft foods cut into small pieces and chew on both sides. Sore spots are common early on. Call us rather than trying to adjust the denture yourself.
Take dentures out at night to rest your gums, keep them moist when they are out, and clean them daily with a denture brush. Keep brushing any natural teeth and your gums. As your gums change over time, a denture can loosen and may need relining or replacing. Our senior dentistry page covers ongoing care.
