Dental bonding is a tooth-colored composite resin that the dentist shapes onto your tooth and hardens with a curing light. It fixes small chips, closes small gaps and evens out short or uneven teeth, usually in one visit. It is one of the cosmetic dentistry treatments we offer.
Little or no tooth is removed, and numbing is often not needed. You get a written estimate before treatment, and Saturday visits are available.

Do you need dental bonding?

Bonding is less suited to large breaks, teeth that need a lot of strength, or changing many teeth at once. For those, a crown or veneers may last longer.
What happens at your visit
- The dentist checks the tooth and matches the composite shade to your teeth.
- The surface is lightly roughened and a bonding liquid is applied so the resin sticks.
- Composite is added in layers and shaped by hand.
- Each layer is hardened with a curing light.
- The tooth is trimmed, polished and your bite is checked.

How long does dental bonding last?
Bonding is strong, but it’s softer than enamel and porcelain. It can pick up stains from coffee, tea and tobacco and can chip if you bite hard objects. Many people need a polish, touch-up or replacement after some years. How long yours lasts depends on where it is, how you bite and whether you grind.
The good news is that repairs are usually simple. A chipped or stained edge can often be smoothed or added to in a short visit without starting over.
Is bonding the same as a tooth-colored filling?
They use the same kind of material. A filling repairs a cavity after decay is removed, while cosmetic bonding is added to the outside of a healthy tooth to change its shape or cover a flaw. We place composite (tooth-colored) fillings only. If a chip exposes a cavity, we treat the decay first.
Cost, insurance and financing
Bonding cost depends on how many teeth are treated and how much material each needs. You get a written estimate before we start — see dental prices for our published fees. Most dental plans treat purely cosmetic work as elective and don’t cover it, but we check your benefits first, because some repairs (a broken tooth, for example) may be covered. We accept Cherry, Sunbit and CareCredit for financing (see financing options). FSA and HSA rules usually exclude treatment done only for looks, so ask your plan administrator before using one. Recovery and aftercare
There’s no healing time; you can eat normally once you leave. For the first couple of days, go easy on coffee, tea and red wine, just as you would after whitening. Over time, avoid biting nails, pens or ice with bonded teeth. If you grind at night, a night guard protects the bonding. Brush and floss as usual and keep regular cleanings, where we polish bonded areas.
